AI for financial advisors: who builds it, and who runs it

Clients pay for your judgment. Most of your week goes to everything around it.

A certified AI Operator joins your practice full-time. They build meeting prep, notes into your CRM, onboarding tracking and service request routing on the tools you already use, with every message archived. You advise; they build.

Meet 3 certified AI Operators in 24 hours. Your first build is live by day 14.

$3,600 a month, month to month. Every account in your name.

A financial advisor sits relaxed at a round wood table with a mug and laptop while an AI Operator stands beside him under floating tiles for growth, a pie chart, a lock and an envelope linked by green lines
The real question

Who should I hire to make AI work in my advisory practice?

Short answer: someone who builds and also respects your books and records. Your CRM, custodian portal and note-taker all have AI features; what's missing is the person who connects them, archives what they send and keeps them away from advice. An AI consultant writes the plan. An AI Operator is the consultant who stays and builds it.

Search "AI for financial advisors" and most results are large firms describing their own tools, plus a lot of questions about whether AI can be your financial advisor. For an independent practice, the useful question is narrower: which hours of admin can AI take without creating a compliance problem?

That depends on setup. A meeting summary that never reaches your archive, or a newsletter that skips review, is a problem no matter how good the writing is.

How the 30 days run

Day 1

Pick your operator

Within 24 hours of your call you meet 3 certified AI Operators. Interview them and choose.

Week 1

Activate

The AI Activation call maps your client service flow. Your compliance lead approves the tools, the archiving path and the review steps before anything is built.

Day 14

First build live

Usually meeting notes into the CRM and prep packets, because they save time every single meeting.

Days 15 to 30

Build and run

Onboarding tracking, service routing and review scheduling. Every Friday: what shipped and what's next. You reply yes or no.

Compliance and data

Books and records, communications and supervision

Not legal advice. These are the questions to take to your chief compliance officer or your broker-dealer's compliance team before AI touches client data or communications. Your firm's written policies control.
Keep what AI sends

SEC Rule 204-2 requires investment advisers to keep originals of written communications received and copies of those sent relating to, among other things, any recommendation made or advice given, for at least five years, the first two in an appropriate office.[1] Builds send only through archived channels, and summaries are stored in the client record.

FINRA rules are technology neutral

FINRA Regulatory Notice 24-09 (June 27, 2024) says its rules apply to generative AI as to any other technology, including supervision under Rule 3110 and AI features embedded in third-party products.[2] If you're registered with a broker-dealer, its approved-tools list comes first.

Communications need review

FINRA Rule 2210 requires communications to be fair and balanced, and a registered principal to approve each retail communication before use.[3] AI-drafted newsletters, posts and emails go to your review queue, not out the door.

Incident response for client data

The SEC's Regulation S-P amendments (May 16, 2024) require covered firms to have an incident response program and to notify affected individuals no later than 30 days after becoming aware of certain incidents.[4] Your operator documents every tool that touches client data, so your plan covers it.

AI voices and texting

The FCC ruled in February 2024 that calls made with AI-generated voices are "artificial" under the TCPA, which requires prior express consent.[5] No AI calling, and texts only through an archived channel your firm approves.

Where your operator works

Every account stays in your name and you control access. Your operator works remotely from Latin America; include that in your vendor due diligence and your access policies.

Where the line is

What to keep human in an advisory practice

AI prepares and records. The advice, and the fiduciary judgment behind it, is yours.

Recommendations and advice

No build tells a client what to buy, sell or do. Drafts that touch advice are written for you to edit.

Suitability and best interest decisions

The prep packet informs you. You decide.

Trades and money movement

Requests are logged and routed. People with authority execute and verify them.

Compliance approval

Every public communication is approved by the person your firm designates.

Hard conversations

Market drops, bad news and family changes get a call from you.

Anything your CCO hasn't approved

New tools and channels wait for sign-off.

The price

What does an AI Operator cost an advisory practice?

One flat monthly price for a full-time builder, not a percentage of anything. For scale: a US software developer earns a median $135,980 a year (BLS, May 2025).[6]

Proof, not promises

Certified on a build, not an interview

Anyone can talk well about AI. Every operator we certify finishes 40+ hours of training, then a 5-day final project where they build a full funnel with AI, scored on a 25-point rubric, plus an interview.

Common Questions

AI for financial advisors: what owners ask

Which AI is best for financial advisors?+
Use what your firm or broker-dealer approves first. Many CRMs and note-takers now include AI, and general models such as Claude or ChatGPT draft well. The best setup sends every client-facing message through archived channels and keeps drafts in a review queue.
Can I use AI as my financial advisor?+
AI can explain concepts and organize information, but it doesn't know your full situation, and it isn't accountable to you the way a fiduciary adviser is. For advisors, the practical use is different: AI handles the preparation and paperwork so the human advice gets more time.
Can ChatGPT be used by a financial advisor?+
For drafting and summarizing, often yes, if your firm's policies allow it. Don't paste client data into unapproved tools, archive what you send, and route communications through review. FINRA says its rules apply to generative AI just like any other technology.
How can financial advisors use AI?+
Start with meeting prep, meeting notes into the CRM, follow-up emails, onboarding paperwork tracking and service request routing. Those save time every week and stay on the right side of advice. An AI Operator can have the first of them live by day 14.
Will AI replace financial advisors?+
It's replacing parts of the job: data gathering, note-taking, paperwork and first drafts. It isn't replacing the fiduciary relationship, behavioral coaching or accountability. Advisors who automate the admin can serve more households with the same care.
How much does an AI Operator cost for an advisory practice?+
$3,600/month, month to month, plus a one-time $3,000 placement fee. It's paid once, on your call, and comes back in full if none of your 3 profiles fit. Quarterly ($10,000) and annual ($36,000) plans are also available.
